The Fam Islands, or Piaynemo as it’s often called, offer some of Raja Ampat’s most breathtaking diving. Fam Islands Dive Sites
Melissa’s Garden is arguably the most famous dive site here, a vibrant coral garden teeming with fish life. It’s a photographer’s dream, with diverse hard and soft corals creating an explosion of color. Fam Wall offers an exhilarating drift dive along a dramatic drop-off, where you can spot pelagic species cruising in the blue. Banyan Tree Garden, another spectacular site, is characterized by its intricate coral formations and an abundance of macro life, making it perfect for those who enjoy searching for smaller creatures.
Beyond the Dives
While the diving is world-class, the Fam Islands offer more. The iconic Piaynemo karst viewpoint provides a panoramic vista reminiscent of Wayag, with its mushroom-shaped islands scattered across the turquoise sea – a perfect land excursion between dives. Snorkeling at Bamboo Islands reveals healthy coral reefs closer to the surface. Manta Point is a dedicated site for encountering majestic manta rays, a truly unforgettable experience. Pam Island also conceals hidden lakes, offering unique freshwater swimming opportunities. The best season for visiting and diving in the Fam Islands is generally from October to April, when the weather is most stable and marine conditions are optimal.
